The Journey Begins

I’ve always had a fascination with words—their beauty, their power, their ability to inspire me or transport me to some exotic place of the world, or to vicariously live through another character in some bygone era.

I’ve always enjoyed writing. At the age of twelve or thirteen, I announced to my brother Ken that I was going to write a book. I can still hear his laughter, or might I call it a belly-laugh, as it echoed through the house! I decided I would just sit right down and begin my masterpiece and show him that I was indeed serious. I think I got as far as the first line that went something like “It was a dark and stormy night…” when I suddenly lost my inspiration. My masterpiece came to a screeching halt, ending as quickly as it began.

Now in retrospect, looking back through the years, I’m beginning to realize those words were somewhat prophetic. I am now in the process of writing my first book, and amazingly, my brother Ken is a central figure in the story. I feel vindicated somehow. I smile as I write those words.

At the encouragement of my husband Steve, I am beginning a blog/website in which I am planning to share this amazing journey from its inception. I will also be including some photos along the way, some favorite quotes which I love to collect, and perhaps a devotional or two, as I do enjoy sharing insights from the Word of God.

I was hesitant about this endeavor at first. There are just so many voices out there—so many books, so many websites, so many blogs. It wearies and boggles the mind to think about it. Does the world need another voice? Why does a person even record their words anyway? I think it begins with a flame, a burning desire to write, to take words and put them together, create and build something of lasting value. I’m beginning this process for my own personal documentation and need to record my thoughts, more than anything else.  It will be a journal of sorts. You’re invited to join me on this journey. I would enjoy the company. More importantly, I would sincerely appreciate your input, reactions and observations along the way.

  1. Are there too many birds singing in the woods? I think the same goes for writers! The sympathy of sound won’t be complete without your part. And your voice will be like no other.
